The Nassau-class battleship was a group of four battleships built for the German Imperial Navy in the early 1900s. These ships were among the first to be built under the Navy Law of 1898, which called for a fleet of 19 battleships and eight armored cruisers.

The Nassau-class ships were designed with a displacement of over 16,000 tons, making them some of the largest battleships of their time. They were armed with a primary battery of four 28 cm (11 in) guns and had a top speed of 19 knots.

One of the most notable features of the Nassau-class ships was their armor protection. The belt armor was 350 mm (13.8 in) thick, while the deck armor was 100 mm (3.9 in) thick. This made them some of the most heavily-armored battleships of their era.

The Nassau-class ships saw action in World War I, with SMS Nassau and SMS Rheinland taking part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916. SMS Westfalen and SMS Posen were used as training ships during the war.

Despite their impressive armor and armament, the Nassau-class ships were ultimately outclassed by the newer and larger super-dreadnought battleships that were being built by other nations. As a result, they were decommissioned in the 1920s and scrapped in the 1930s.

Overall, the Nassau-class battleships were a significant step forward for the German Imperial Navy and played a key role in the development of future battleship designs. However, their service life was limited by the rapid technological advancements of the time.
